Award-Winning Artists Matteo Caloiaro & Brooke Olivares Come to The Gilded Fisherman

Join us at The Gilded Fisherman for a special exhibition and sale featuring the work of husband-and-wife painters Matteo Caloiaro and Brooke Olivares - two of Florida’s most accomplished representational artists, both alumni of Ringling College of Art and Design, now based in Sarasota.

Matteo, a full-time instructor in Ringling’s Illustration Department, paints in oil with a gritty, narrative realism — portraits and places rendered with striking honesty. His work is held in collections spanning from the J.M. Smucker Co. to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, and has earned him top honors from the Portrait Society of America.

Brooke’s paintings turn an intimate, observational eye toward everyday life — often drawing from her own family for subject matter, whether figure, landscape, or still life. A former Ringling instructor herself, she has exhibited from Cape Cod to Washington, D.C., and was awarded First Place in Painting at the Portrait Society of America’s International Portrait Competition.

Together, they bring two distinct but deeply connected visions of realism — shaped by shared training, a shared home, and a shared life.

Julie Rhine keeps The Gilded Fisherman at 505 Pine Avenue, Anna Maria. The shop is open Tuesday through Saturday, ten to five.
