Art Show July 16: Matteo Caloiaro & Brooke Olivares

This is a big one for us. On Thursday, July 16, we are hosting an exhibition and sale with Matteo Caloiaro and Brooke Olivares, husband-and-wife painters whose work I have wanted on these walls since before we opened the doors.

Both are Ringling College of Art and Design alumni, and their paintings have been shown from Cape Cod to D.C. and collected all over the country. His work is gritty, narrative oil realism, boats and working waterfronts with real weather in them. Hers are intimate, story-driven scenes of everyday life, the kind you look at twice and then a third time. If you have been in the shop lately you may have already met one of Matteo's, a little skiff pulled up on shore that I have had a hard time not taking home myself.

The originals will be up all day, on display and for sale, and Matteo and Brooke will be here in person from 2 to 5 for a meet and greet. Come ask them about the work. Hearing where a painting comes from is half the reason to own one, and these two tell it well. We will have refreshments out.

Thursday, July 16, from 12 to 5, right here at 505 Pine Ave. These are one of a kind pieces, so if something catches you, do not sleep on it. See you Thursday.

Julie Rhine keeps The Gilded Fisherman at 505 Pine Avenue, Anna Maria. The shop is open Tuesday through Saturday, ten to five.
